Ace of Cakes Can Suck It

Aceofcakes

I can't handle the fact that Ace of Cakes is on the Food Network. Even more upsetting is the fact that my boyfriend makes me watch it in bed every night before I fall asleep. It should be noted that I majored in art in college and am a great lover of all things cake. That's why it hurts me to watch Duff take a such a tremendous crap on worlds of art and baking. He puts fondant on a piece of Styrofoam and calls it a cake. That might even be okay if the end result wasn't disproportionate and poorly executed, but it always ends up as a crappy cartoon knock off. What kid wants a misshapen flamingo made of metal rods and modeling chocolate for his birthday?! Duff, if you are out there I want you to reach inside yourself and answer these questions before you finish your next cake: What flavor is the cake? Is the cake made with edible materials? What good is an ugly cake you can't eat?

Defending Rachael Ray

Ray_rachael

The gay community is divided in it's support of Rachael Ray. While I see the merit in both sides, I feel like her pros outweigh her cons. Personally, I think the gay community should embrace her and help rehabilitate her poor choices and eccentricities. I mean if we can still embrace Britney it would be hypocritical to shut out Rachael Ray.

Pros:

Has some easy and tasty recipes

Cons:
Sold her soul to Oprah
Married to a gay vampire
Makes bad hairstyle choices
Wears awkward skin tight long sleeve T's and jeans
Talks in food baby talk
Can seem cracky and robotic

Glad's Steamiest Chefs

082107_steamchef1

As seen on Foodnetworkaddict, Glad is sponsoring a contest to vote for the steamiest celebrity chef to win a chance to have dinner with the winner among other things. I voted for Lieberman because he's cute, but I have no interest in him outside of the kitchen. I would rather have seen Tyler Florence, Tom Colicchio, or the Dean boys. Also on Foodnetworkaddict, was a rumor that Dave Lieberman has left the Food Network and is looking to create a casual dining restaurant in Los Angeles.

Popcorn From Beyond The Grave

Can we talk about the fact that Orville Redenbacher is back from the dead to sell us microwave popcorn?

Throwdown with Bobby Flay

Punks2
Question:
What happens when you cross Iron Chef America with Mtv's Punk'd?
Answer: Throwdown with Bobby Flay

In his new show, alpha male and uber competitive Food Network chef Bobby Flay visits top chefs under the guise of shooting a profile on them for Food Network. Upon his arrival he challenges the chefs to a surprise competition in their own kitchens. I am not a fan of Flay's, but the premise for the show is worth checking out. Throwdown with Bobby Flay premieres Thursday, July 13.

Guy's Big Bite

Guysteve

Guy Fieri, winner of The Next Food Network Star, has a new show premering today on the Food Network. He's got an in-your-face straight guy way about him and looks a little too much like the lead singer of Smash Mouth to be taken seriously, but he's experienced and his food looks pretty good. I've penciled him in on my Tivo season passes for the next couple weeks.

Party Line with The Hearty Boys

My desperate emails have been heard. Back by popular demand, Party Line with Dan & Steve will be taping 13 brand new shows on the Food Network that will begin airing in early January. The show has changed it's name to Party Line with The Hearty Boys, which is surprising and somewhat lame (not unlike Dan's earring). The couple have also continued with their catering business and have recently renovated HB, their very own restauant in Chicago's boystown.

Project Runway Season 2

I just watched last night's premere episode of Project Runway Season 2 on my Tivo. My favorite reality show is back and not a moment too soon. If I had to be subjected to another group of zany business school rejects on The Apprentice or zany rehab rejects on The Real World/Road Rules Challenge, I'd have to gouge my eyes out with my remote. It's refreshing to see contestants with actual skills and talent. Recently, I had the chance to meet the designers in person at a promotional kick off event for the new season. They were very accomodating considering my superfan status. Note to John: You were robbed! Kristen, Goo Goo Dolls-haired Daniel, and Heidi were clearly the bottom three. To achieve your own super fan status try a making a "Tim Gunn". It's clean and crisp with a fruity twist, much like the Parsons design mentor I named it after..

"The Tim Gunn"

1/2oz Peach Schnaps
1 1/2oz Vodka
1/4 oz Lime Juice
Fill with Club Soda
