I just found out that I missed a trailer giving out free pie on a trip across the country to help promote the ABC show Pushing Daisies. Click here for more info. Incase you miss your chance for free pie they sent me recipes to make their pies and cobblers at home.
Ned’s Apple Pie
1 recipe
pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
½ cup
unsalted butter
3
tablespoons all-purpose flour
¼ cup water
½ cup white
sugar
½ cup packed
brown sugar
8 Granny
Smith apples – peeled, cored and sliced
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Melt the butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add Water, white sugar and brown sugar, and bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let simmer Place the bottom crust in your pan. Fill with apples, mounded slightly. Cover with a lattice work of crust. Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust. Pour slowly so that it does not run off. Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until apples are soft.
Ned’s One Minute Blueberry Pie
Baked 9 inch
pie shell
6 oz. cream
cheese
2
tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon
grated lemon peel
4 cups fresh
blueberries
1 tablespoon
lemon juice
1/8
tablespoon salt
Water
1 cup sugar
2
tablespoons cornstarch
Soften
cream cheese. Add milk and lemon peel; beat until smooth. Spread cheese mixture
evenly in bottom of baked pie shell. Sprinkle
2 cups whole blueberries over cheese layer. Mash
reminder of blueberries; spoon in 1-1/2 cups of pulp and liquid. Place
in a small saucepan.Mix
sugar and cornstarch Stir into the blueberry pulp. Bring
to a boil, stirring constantly, and cook for about 2 minutes or until
thickened. Coll mixture to lukewarm. Spoon
the blueberry sauce over blueberries. Chill pie for several hours.
Ned’s Georgia Peach Cobbler
2 cups
sliced fresh peaches (or any fresh fruit)
1 cup
granulated sugar
½ cups
butter
¾ cups
self-rising flour (see note)
¾ cups milk
Ground
nutmeg
Combine
fruit with sugar in a bowl; set aside. Put butter in an 11x8x2 ½ inch baking
dish. Place
in 350 degree oven to melt butter. Butter should be bubbly not brown. Combine
flour and milk; pour over melted butter in pan. Spoon fruit mixture on top. Sprinkle
with nutmeg. Do not stir. Return
to 350 degree oven and bake 1 hour or until cobbler is golden brown. Note:
To make your own sel-rising flour, add 1 teaspoon baking powder and ¼ cup
all-purpose flour.
The show looks bad, but I'm in for the free pie.
